Uber Eats offers dessert incentive for Sydney Covid hotpots

Sweet treats are on offer for residents in the first LGA of concern that reaches the 80 per cent double vaccination target.

NSW 'Freedom Day' might be coming sooner than expected

Free dessert could be on the menu for double jabbed residents in Sydney’s west thanks to a new vaccine incentive launched by one of Australia’s biggest online food ordering and delivery companies.

Targeting those with a sweet tooth, Uber Eats has pledged to give a $20 discount on dessert orders to residents in the first local government area of concern that reaches 80 per cent full vaccination.

The sweet deal joins a raft of incentives that businesses have been pushing across the city in an attempt to drive vaccination rates up and revive people’s spirits in time for the state’s reopening.

Residents of the winning LGA can treat themselves to their favourite sugary snack anytime over a three-day period that will occur on the weekend after the vaccine target is met.

“Essentially, we’re keeping a close eye on the NSW Government vaccination tallies, so once the first LGA of concern reaches 80 per cent double vaccinated, we’ll activate the $20 off promo code the following Friday for that LGA,” an Uber spokesperson said.

“Participating partners are those that identify as a dessert store, so if you go into the Uber Eats app and select desserts, that would be anything that comes up from that search.“

Winning customers can fulfil their sugar fix with well-known brand names that have been listed as participating stores, including Ben & Jerry’s, Krispy Kreme and Max Brenner.

With dessert orders climbing 97 per cent between May and August this year, Uber hopes to tap into the cravings of dessert-hungry Sydneysiders and boost vaccine rates at the same time.

“We know that Sydney has a bit of a sweet tooth,” an Uber spokesperson said.

“Ice cream is a great comfort food to sweeten up a lockdown day. Sydneysiders love a weekend treat with the most common days to order dessert being Sunday followed closely by Saturday.”

In the event that more than one LGA of concern reaches the 80 per cent vaccination target simultaneously, Uber has vowed to honour the incentive to all of the areas who succeed.
