Tradie trouble: NSW halts construction after 111 new COVID-19 cases

A TikTok comedian who has successfully published the Covid-19 case numbers in NSW each day has told his followers there will be 105 new cases announced on Sunday.

Jon-Bernard Kairouz posted his latest video on Saturday evening.

In the short clip, which is heavily edited to feature Stephen Hawking, Mr Kairouz jokes about his mathematical equations before saying there would be 105 cases announced on Sunday.

The number is lower than yesterday’s 111 cases but remains higher than 100, meaning if it is accurate, Greater Sydney is yet to see any significant drop in numbers despite being in lockdown for three weeks.

Kairouz is causing a stir on the social media platform by correctly revealing NSW’s number of Covid cases hours before the official press conference.

Mr Kairouz’s apparent psychic powers were first revealed on Tuesday night, when he claimed in a TikTok video the state would record 97 new cases.

“I know how many cases there’s going to be tomorrow, no need for an update Gladys,” he declared.

“Given that there’s 30 infectious cases in the community, plus how contagious the Delta strain is, you also have to factor in the circumference of south Sydney plus the amount of households in Fairfield with 11 children … I can conclude there will be 97 cases tomorrow.”

The would-be Covid psychic’s tongue-in cheek formula proved correct on Wednesday at 11am, before a video posted that night saw a similar stunt.

Mr Kariouz, complete with a whiteboard of mock-up calculations, predicted NSW would record a further 65 cases overnight.

“Number of new cases in Sydney, Gladdy, I’ve got you again … there will be 65 cases tomorrow,” he announced.

Once again, the Premier’s Covid update proved he was correct.

Thousands of TikTok viewers have weighed in on Mr Kariouz’s “witchcraft”, with users eagerly awaiting more videos predicting case numbers in the coming days.

“How did you know?” one wrote in disbelief, while another joked: “This man is from the future”.

While one user claimed the comedian clearly “had insider knowledge”, another wrote they would be “jumping on Sportsbet now” in hopes Mr Kariouz’s guess would score them a betting win.
When asked by Victorian fans to predict their local case numbers, the comedian wouldn’t put out, but claimed his calculations were backed by a Casio scientific calculator.

“(Daniel Andrews) is a different beast,” he wrote.

“It’s simple maths … I don’t predict, I know.”
