‘Single, bored, send wine’ sign lightens mood in Sydney’s east
It began as a dig at rich neighbours flouting social distancing rules, but the wine has been flowing since these eastern suburbs tenants hung their cheeky isolation sign on their balcony.

At first glance, a huge sign hanging over a balcony in Sydney’s east saying ‘Single, Bored, Send Wine’ may not appear to trigger good social distancing behaviour.
But the banner's owner, 31-year-old Corrine Dodd, says that’s exactly its purpose.
Fed up with continued flouting of social distancing orders in her area, Ms Dodd said she wanted to remind people in the eastern suburbs to stay home.
“We are surrounded by these enormous mansions with their owners all walking around,” Ms Dodd said.
“I wanted to tell people to stay home, like, we live in a sh*thole compared to them and we’re fine in isolation.
“I thought it would be good to have a sign that was disruptive and abrupt.”
The eastern suburbs has been one of the hardest hit in the COVID-19 outbreak, and breaches of social distancing orders have led to beach closures and a police presence at local parks.
Until last week, Ms Dodd said she regularly saw “masses of people” walking through Clovelly and Coogee, but rather than shaming her neighbours, she opted for humour instead.
Her approach has so far landed her several bottles of wine.
“I wanted people to just have a laugh and a giggle. Hopefully, it makes them think that we’re staying home and we’re all right.”
The sign has not been without its critics, Ms Dodd said, with one neighbour not thrilled by the attention it had attracted.
“He asked if we could take it down during the week. People walk by and have a laugh so it may be distracting,” Ms Dodd said.
“But it will go up on the weekends. A few people have dropped off bottles of Rose, I even got something called a Crimson cabernet, which was … different.
“I do have an idea for another sign, but that one is not ready for publication yet. People will just have to wait and see.
