The founder of the Rashays dining empire Rami Ykmour will front court next month after a tip-off about an alleged breach of the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.

The restaurateur was arrested on Thursday afternoon at the Rashays head office in Ferngrove Pl, Chester Hill, following an anonymous tip that staff were not wearing masks at the chain.

Ykmour, who is originally from Bankstown, was arrested at the headquarters around 3.50pm.

He was taken to Parramatta Police Station, where he was later charged with hindering police in their investigations into alleged non-compliance with the mask mandate.

He was issued with a Court Attendance Notice and will front Parramatta Local Court on August 18.

There is no suggestion that Ykmour was not wearing a mask.

The Rashays franchise has more than 30 outlets along the east coast of Australia.

In May, Ykmour praised the NSW government’s response to Covid-19, in particular saying the Dine and Discover program had been a big boost to business.

The 46-year-old has his own personal brand, Rami Ykmour, which includes a series of podcasts and social media posts on his life and success as an entrepreneur.
