Rose Bay Public School: Coronavirus case confirmed

A suspected case of coronavirus at Rose Bay Public School has been confirmed as COVID-19, but authorities are scratching their heads about the source of infection.

Health experts plead with Australians not to protest

A panel of experts have been brought on board to review positive COVID-19 cases which did not have a source of infection have determined a suspected Rose Bay Public School case is positive.

A NSW Health spokesperson said the source of the infection — in a before and after school care worker — hasn’t been determined yet.

“NSW Health convened an expert panel today to review testing results from a case under investigation related to Rose Bay Public School,” the spokesperson said.

“The panel agreed that further testing had confirmed that this is a case of COVID-19.

“However, it should be stressed that the date of infection is still to be determined and this case may be an older infection.

“As a precaution all close contacts of this case are being identified and advised of the need to isolate and monitor for symptoms.

NSW Health said the person had not attended any mass gatherings or protests.

NSW Health has established the monitoring body to dive deeper into cases where a source of infection was unclear and the panel has already excluded five people who showed a false positive result.

The school is closed today and students are required to learn from home.

Two travellers in hotel quarantine have also tested positive for the virus and one of them was a passenger on the Greg Mortimer cruise ship.

The traveller is understood to have acquired the virus overseas before flying back to Victoria and isolating there.

The total number of cases recorded in NSW sits at 3117.

It comes as NSW Police said they would not hesitate to prosecute anyone who attended Sydney protests because of COVID-19 health and safety concerns.

A rally, organised by the Refugee Action Coalition, was scheduled to take place at Sydney’s Town Hall.
