More vouchers, worth $100, will be given out to parents — this time for those with Kindergarten-aged children.

Dominic Perrottet's expansive recovery packages shows long road out of pandemic

Kindergarten kids who missed out on swimming lessons due to Covid restrictions will be able to access a $100 voucher under an expanded learn to swim program.

The ‘First Lap’ program will be broadened to cover children in kindergarten this year, or kids who are starting school in 2022.

Previously only preschool children had been eligible.

“Because of Covid restrictions, our kindy kids have missed a crucial window of being able to develop the skills they need to stay safe in the water,” Mr Perrottet said.

The voucher program will cost the state government $54 million over two years.

“Summer in Australia is all about swimming, at your local pool, beach or river. We know families have been doing it tough during the Covid lockdown and the First Lap program will also ensure family budgets aren’t stretched so our kids have these crucial skills,” Sports Minister Natalie Ward said.

Families will be able to apply for the First Lap vouchers from December 1 through Service NSW.

The $100 vouchers will be able to used on swimming lessons with an approved provider. Businesses will be able to register for the program from next month.
