Woman in her 30s dies as NSW records 141 new Covid-19 cases

“Younger people without pre-existing conditions can also fall victim to this cruel disease,” the Premier warns.

NSW records two deaths, 141 new local COVID cases

Two more people have died with Covid-19 including a woman in her 30s with no pre-existing medical conditions.

NSW recorded 141 new local Covid cases in the 24 hours to 8pm last night, from a record 102,233 tests.

Of those cases, at least 38 were in the community while infectious. Only 65 cases were in isolation for their full infectious period.

Two people died overnight - a woman in her 30s from the CBD and a woman in her 70s from southwest Sydney.

The woman in her 30s had no pre-existing medical conditions, Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.

“If anybody thinks this is a disease just affecting older people, please think again,” Ms Berejiklian said.

The total death count from the current coronavirus outbreak in NSW is eight.

“I want to extend my heartfelt condolences to those families, their loved ones who are grieving today, but please note that younger people without pre-existing conditions can also fall victim to this cruel disease,” Ms Berejiklian said.

It was also revealed that a man has tested positive to Covid-19 after breaching strict isolation rules by flying to Ballina despite knowing he was a “close contact” of a confirmed Covid patient.

The man flew from Sydney to Ballina on Virgin flight VA1139 on July 14.

He took the flight despite being ordered into 14 days of strict isolation after he was identified as a close contact of a Covid case at his workplace.

Top NSW public health official Jeremy McAnulty said the man was tested on July 12 but a private testing lab “mistakenly” told the man he had tested negative.

“This didn’t change the fact that he had to isolate for 14 days,” Dr McAnulty said.

NSW Health was advised the man was Covid positive on July 20.

He subsequently told health authorities that he had been isolating since July 10.

“This is not true,” Dr McAnulty said.

A Queensland flight attendant who tested positive on Friday appears to have contracted Covid from the traveller from NSW after picking him up at the airport, Queensland Deputy Premier Steven Miles said.

Meanwhile, the number of Covid cases connected to a grieving family who held an illegal gathering is now 28.

At least 50 people were at the Pendle Hill gathering on July 19.

The gathering involved “a grieving family who came together to support each other,” Dr McAnulty said.
