NSW has recorded 1290 locally-acquired Covid-19 cases overnight and four deaths.

The surge of infections came as the state hit 6.8 million vaccinations with NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian saying 66 per cent of the state's adult population had now received one jab.

A man in his 50s from Dubbo was among those who died in the last 24 hours, as well as two men aged in their 70s from Western Sydney and Sydney's inner west and and a woman in her 60s from Western Sydney.

It comes as deputy premier John Barilaro revealed the first restrictions likely to ease as the vaccination rate climbs.

He said outdoor dining and retail could reopen by mid-October, in low risk areas with a vaccination rate of 70 per cent.
