NSW Covid updates: 1022 new cases, 10 deaths, Byron in lockdown
NSW has recorded 1022 new cases and 10 more deaths from the virus while northern parts of the state, including Byron Bay, are returning to lockdown. Read our Covid blog.
Byron, Tweed and Kempsey local government areas will return to lockdown for a week, effective from 5pm today.
It comes after an authorised worker who visited Byron, Ballina and Tweed over the weekend tested positive to Covid.
Health Minister Brad Hazzard said there had been “some cases” in the northern part of the state.
“It will be initially for seven days,” he said.
The stay-at-home orders also apply to anyone who has been in the affected areas since the following dates:
- Kempsey LGA - 14 September
- Byron LGA - 18 September
- Tweed LGA - 18 September
There were 1,022 new cases recorded in NSW the 24 hours to 8pm on Sunday and 10 people died from the virus.
