Premier Gladys Berejiklian has declared she did not believe there was any manageable level of community transmission of the delta Covid-19 variant.

“You can’t live with the delta variant unless you have a certain proportion of the population vaccinated,” Ms Berejiklian said.

She added the three week lockdown will be sufficient “if every single person does the right thing”.“But that is a big ask,” she said.

Meanwhile, NSW will get an extra 300,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines from next week to combat the delta variant outbreak paralysing Sydney, with those most at risk first in line for the jab.

The federal government will send NSW an additional 150,000 doses of Pfizer and 150,000 doses of AstraZeneca from July 12, as an early delivery of the state’s per capita allocation from future week supplies.

In a sign of the government’s fears about the south west Sydney outbreak, Prime Minister Scott Morrison urged Sydneysiders who have already had their first dose of AstraZeneca to bring forward their second dose from a 12-week gap to just eight weeks.

The shorter period between the AstraZeneca doses will mean those more at risk of contracting the virus would be better protected sooner.
