The NSW age group with the most Covid infections has been revealed as the Omicron variant continues to create record case numbers across the state.

NSW Health data broken down by age group has revealed people aged 20 to 29 make up the bulk of NSW‘s Covid infections, outstripping all other age groups.

Across all three time brackets of new infections today, over the past seven days and in the past 30 days, people in their 20s were the age group with the highest number of new cases.

Since December 7, almost 80,000 confirmed cases have been in the 20 to 29 age bracket, along with 54,456 in the past seven days.

Among Friday’s record 38,625 new infections, 10,111 of the cases were aged 20 to 29.

The age group with the second highest number of infections were people aged 30 to 39, according to the data.

Ten to 19 year-olds and 40 to 49 year-olds followed behind, with similar infection numbers between the two groups.

But for fatalities, 80 to 89 year-olds were far in front of all other age groups, with 203 deaths out of NSW’s total of 700 since the pandemic began.

The 20 to 29 year-old group is last placed for fatalities, with only seven confirmed deaths of people in this age group who had caught the virus.

It comes as Friday’s Covid update also revealed 1738 people are in hospital with Covid, including 134 admitted to intensive care.

Eleven people died with Covid overnight, and 95.1 per cent of eligible people aged 16 and over have had one vaccine dose.

About 93.6 per cent of the eligible group are fully vaccinated.
