The Police Minister has warned Bondi Beach is at risk of being closed again after he became enraged at reports and pictures of residents crowded on the sand and boardwalk.
David Elliott was on Sunday night holding crisis talks with police and considering options to close eastern suburbs beaches after complaints, he confirmed to the Telegraph.
Mr Elliott was particularly concerned by the contrast to places like Fairfield where he said residents were living in difficult circumstances and trying their best to do the right thing.
“I can’t believe the good people of Fairfield have responded with an A-plus and the people of the eastern suburbs seem to think Covid won’t infect them,” he said.
“It’s like they are living on another planet. It’s not only selfish but it is arrogance of the highest order.”
Mr Elliott said the majority of complaints he had received about the issue were from eastern suburbs residents who were “living on the edge” of concerns of another outbreak.
He said he had told police to put “whatever resources necessary into the eastern beaches”.
