NSW Covid latest: 2213 new cases, one death
NSW has recorded another surge in daily Covid infections, reaching the state’s highest daily total ever, and one woman has died.

More than 60 cases of the Omicron variant have been detected overnight as NSW’s daily Covid cases surge, passing 2000.
The state recorded 2213 new infections on Friday according to NSW Health, while one person has died with the virus.
Of the new cases 63 are Omicron, taking the total number of the variant’s confirmed infections to 185 - the highest single-day rise in cases of the new strain.
An unvaccinated Northern Tablelands women in her 60s died at St Vincent’s Hospital, taking NSW’s death toll to 644.

In the 24-hour reporting period to 8pm last night:
- 94.8% of people aged 16+ have had one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine

Today’s case numbers are the first time the state has seen more than 2000 cases, even during the midst of the Delta strain outbreak earlier this year.
It marks the second day this week cases have risen by more than 500 infections.
On Thursday, NSW recorded 1742 new cases, 1360 on Wednesday and 804 on Tuesday.
There are 24 people in ICU out of 215 people in hospital with the virus.
It comes as 94.8 per cent of eligible people aged 16 and over have had a single Covid vaccine dose, while 93.3 per cent are fully vaccinated.
