List of every NSW GP, pharmacy to have ordered Novavax

Almost 750 pharmacies and GP clinics across NSW are expecting doses of the ‘traditional’ Covid-19 vaccine Novavax to arrive in the next week. FIND OUT WHERE THEY ARE.

First Novavax doses arrive in Australia

The long-awaited Novavax is set to be rolled out in pharmacies and GP clinics across NSW and experts say it could be the answer for patients looking for a “more traditional vaccine”.

Although 95 per cent of people over the age of 16 are now fully-vaccinated with previously available vaccines, Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt said there had been demand for Novavax.

“Despite high vaccination rates in Australia, there has been a demand for a protein-based formula,” Health Minister Greg Hunt said.

“For some people, the arrival of Novavax will be the extra push they need to get their first jab and kick start their protection against Covid-19.”

The Daily Telegraph can reveal all the pharmacies and GPs in NSW who are offering the Novavax jab:

Infectious diseases physician Professor Peter Collignon said Novavax would provide another option to doctors dealing with patients with a complicated medical history or those who are hesitant.

“Some people wanted a more traditional vaccine, a protein vaccine, who will hopefully see this vaccine is different from mRNA vaccines,” he said.

“The other people it’s useful for are those who had potential reactions from the other vaccines and so deferred their second dose. If you had myocarditis, AstraZeneca can be used as a booster but this can be used off label as well.

“If you have a cardiac problem, you may want to use this vaccine. The same with certain groups with a high risk of side effects, like teenage males. Teenage males get more myocarditis. It doesn’t occur all that commonly … Well this vaccine does not have that side effect so this may be an option. ”

Prof Collignon said it was crucial to realise that this vaccine is not “better” than the other options but does provide doctors with more flexibility.

The vaccine is no better than the ones we’ve got but it has a different side effect profile so its gives an option to doctors for complicated patients with pre-existing conditions or hesitant patients who want a more traditional vaccine,” he said.
