Households across the state are bunkering down and boozing up and it is putting a major strain on alcohol delivery services, with wait times now out to 10 days.
The rising demand for alcohol is causing headaches for Australia’s biggest online bottle shop as it struggles to keep up with the number of thirsty customers jumping in virtual queues.
Dan Murphy’s website issued a banner notice to online customers on Monday night that warned standard delivery in NSW may take up to ten days due to the current Covid order volume.
“There have been delays by a day or two because of the ongoing lockdown conditions,” a Dan Murphy’s customer service team member said.
“It’s not the (lack of) stock. We need to find more couriers because the deliveries have gone up way too much because there’s only online deliveries now.
“I wouldn’t say it’s going to the tenth (day), but I would say it’s a day or two over normal just because of the number of orders that we are servicing now.”
In comparison to regular delivery time frames, customer service representatives agreed there was “a bit of a delay” but said orders made on the website were normally estimated at four business days in metro regions.
“I understand there has been a few delays in deliveries but as far as deliveries as concerned, the standard delivery time for a metro region is still four business days. If the product is coming directly from the supplier, it is four to ten business days,” the team member said.
“There are regional areas, which we deliver to in five to nine days. That’s another thing.”
