Irish actor Amy Huberman is using her isolation down time to catch up on TV shows and movies she hasn’t had time to see.

But she has one caveat – the content she consumes has to be upbeat in a world filled with the doom and gloom of coronavirus.

“I went to watch something the other day and had to turn it off because it was too dark for me at the moment,” Huberman said.

“I need something fun or something I don’t have to think about too much or worry too much about. It is a kind of escapism at the end of the day from all that is going on.”

Huberman spoke to Hibernation from her Dublin home for the release of her TV show Finding Joy.

It was 8am there when the call came through and she was still in her pyjamas after just getting out of bed.

“I am ready for another really crazy day in quarantine,” she laughed. “Another wild day of sitting inside.”

Huberman, who is known for playing Daisy in the drama series The Critic, has been sharing her isolation craziness with her nearly 400,000 Instagram followers, including arts and craft sessions she did with her two young kids over Easter, ironing outside for a vitamin D fix and gorgeous snaps of new rescue puppy Phoebe.

“She has been the cutest, fluffiest puppiest ball of distraction this past while,” Huberman wrote on Instagram, sharing one of many images of the cute pooch.

In another shot, Phoebe can be seen looking out the window with the caption: “The way she stares out at them in the garden playing football. I can’t cope. She’s been red carded for a (poo emoji) mid game which really should be a season suspension but she’s only learning.”

Neighbours in her area have taken to placing homemade artworks in their windows for others to admire.

“It is really nice when you go for your one walk up the road, we are allowed a radius of two kilometres from our house,” she explained. “I am stealing ideas so my kids now think that I am some art-inspired genius.”

It is this humour that Huberman injects into Finding Joy, her first foray into writing for television.

Huberman also stars in the show, playing the lead role of Joy, a woman content with being average in life.

Like many of us, Huberman has felt anxious about the state of the world and the uncertainty to which everything will get back to normal.

“It is impossible not to feel that and in a way it is a comfort in knowing that we are all in this together in the world,” she explained. “You just feel so much smaller at the moment … but we will come out the other side.”
