NSW Covid updates: 265 new cases, five deaths

A woman aged in her 30s from the NSW Hunter is one of five new deaths from Covid in NSW. Read our Covid blog.

NSW has recorded 265 new Covid cases and five more deaths as the state reached 80.76 of the over 16 population fully vaccinated.

First-dose rates are at 92.1 per cent, according to figures to be confirmed by the commonwealth later today.

One of the latest fatalities includes a woman aged in her 30s from Cessnock in the NSW Hunter region. NSW Health said she was unvaccinated and had underlying health conditions.

More rules eased across the state for fully vaccinated residents today - here are all the changes now in effect: 

Dominic Perrottet said as the state prepared to reach 90 per cent full vaccination in coming weeks, he was eyeing an increase in international students coming to Sydney.

“For many people they’ll say why are you prioritising internationals students? We are doing that because it’s an important industry for our state,” he said. “Going forward, we’ve already got a plan for international students (and) I would like to increase that plan where we can and obviously in time for the university year next year. ”
