COVID NSW: Restrictions ease for weddings, funerals, nightclubs and masks

Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced a major easing of COVID restrictions including a big change to masks and capacity limits. Read the details here.

Capacity limits on weddings and funerals will be scrapped, dancing is back on at pubs and nightclubs will reopen for the first time since the pandemic in a major easing of restrictions from Monday.

There’ll be no restrictions on singing in churches, and no caps on household visitors.

Masks will no longer be mandatory on public transport.

Venues will still be limited by the one person per two square metre rule.

Gyms will have their capacity increased to the 2 sqm rule, from the 4 sqm rule.

Outdoor public gatherings will move to 200 people.

Household gatherings of more than 100 people will require a COVID safe plan and electronic registering of guests.

“With no community transmission and our quarantine and frontline workers now receiving their second vaccinations, the timing is right to further ease restrictions across the state,” Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.

It came as Ms Berejiklian announced 100 per cent of hotel quarantine workers have received at least one vaccine dose.

The premier stressed the need to continue to be COVID safe including signing into venues.

“We desperately need people to keep registering (with) QR codes,” she said.
