Prime Minister Scott Morrison has praised Australia's "record" uptake of Covid-19 vaccinations.

At a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, Mr Morrison said 279,465 Australians were vaccinated on Monday, which was a new record and amounted to 200 doses a minute.

It comes as NSW recorded 452 new Covid cases and one death in the last 24 hours, with at least 50 people infectious while in the community.

A woman in her 70s from Sydney's west died at Westmead Hospital overnight, Premier Gladys Berejiklian said on Tuesday morning. She was not vaccinated.

Ms Berejiklian said the city's west and southwest had recorded the most number of new infections with case numbers likely to "rise substantially" over the coming weeks.

She flagged Blacktown, Seven Hills, Merrylands, Guildford, Auburn, Bankstown and Greenacre as particular areas of concern.

Authorities are also concerned about the rise in Covid cases in the state's west with 16 new infections in Dubbo and two in Bourke.

Deputy Premier John Barilaro said one case in Broken Hill had also been recorded after the reporting period.

"Go out and get tested," Mr Barilaro urged. "We have to get ahead of the curve."
