The payments will start flowing into the accounts of eligible Australians from today at a cost of about $3.8 billion.

This is everything you need to know”

What’s the payment?

The $750 Economic Support Payment (ESP) aims to help low income Australians during the coronavirus outbreak.

It’s the second round of such payments this year, with the first lot of $750 payments made in March and April to about 6.6 million people who were receiving Centrelink payments.

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said there were no plans for a third round of payments.

“This cash payment is part of a comprehensive suite of measures we have announced,” he told the ABC this morning.

He said the next phase of income support for beyond September would be announced next week.

Who can get the payment?

Most people that received the first payment are eligible for the second payment.

It’s an additional payment if you are both living in Australia and get an eligible payment or concession card on July 10, 2020.

It includes those on the age pension, disability support pension, carer payment, bereavement allowance, veteran service pension, and veteran income support supplement.

If you claim Family Tax Benefit (FTB) A or B you will also receive the payment as a lump sum.

Commonwealth Seniors Health Card and Pensioner Concession Card holders will all receive the payment.

You won’t get the second payment if you’re getting the Coronavirus Supplement, even if you got the first one.

How will the payment be made?

If you’re eligible, the money will be paid straight into your bank account. You don’t need to do anything.

However anyone that receives Family Tax Benefit A or B will only get the $750 payment when the tax office has finalised their tax return.

Payments should appear in bank accounts sometime between today and the end of the month.
