No car? No worries, for those needing to travel to get the jab – with an Aussie business giving away a massive $200,000 of free taxi rides to help accelerate NSW’s vaccination rates.

Aussie business Cabcharge from Thursday will launch a huge free-ride giveaway in a bid to get punters to their jab appointments and hasten the race back to normality.

Cabcharge’s boss Cyrus Asher says the company will hand out $200,000 in free taxi rides to help NSW get jabbed as quickly as possible.

Cabcharge’s boss Cyrus Asher said the business wants to help people hit hard financially by lockdowns with a safe trip to their vaccination bookings, as NSW zooms towards a 70 per cent double-vaxxed target.

“It could be a frontline worker, a hairdresser desperate to get back to work, residents with special travel needs — we want to ensure no one is left behind for a safe and reliable ride to the vaccination appointment,” the chief customer officer said.

“We want to aid the vaccination initiative across the state and hope other businesses can support this initiative as well.”

Those who visit the Cabcharge website will simply need to fill in their details to access a voucher worth $50, which can then be used with taxi fleets across NSW by anyone who needs to travel to get their first or second vaccination.

With Delta increasingly rife in Sydney, Mr Asher said a free cab ride provided a safer alternative for many punters.

“Many people are wary of public transport because of the speedy transmission of the Delta virus,” Mr Asher said.
“And helping people to a vaccination hub is a thoughtful gesture when people have lost their jobs or are experiencing financial stress.”

Mr Asher said the company may roll the initiative out across Australia if the NSW pilot program was successful.

It’s one of a growing number of Aussie businesses, desperate for a return to normality, which are floating rewards for punters in a bid to boost jab rates.

Qantas last month launched its ‘Been vaccinated? Be rewarded’ campaign, promising frequent flyers who have been fully-jabbed extra Qantas points, flight discounts, as well as the chance to win a year’s worth of flights, hotel stays and fuel.

For those closer to home, iconic boozer The Lord Gladstone in Chippendale has rebranded itself as “The Lord Jabstone”, promising a free takeaway beer for jabbed patrons throughout September.
