NSW Covid updates: Doubts raised over regional travel
Travel between Sydney and regional NSW has been promised at the 80 per cent vaccine target but there are now doubts over travel rules easing. Read our Covid blog.
The premier has hinted regional travel may not come as promised for all of NSW once the state reaches 80 per cent double vaccinated in a few days' time.
"We did not expect to be in a position where our double vaccination rate has come forward the way it has and what a great thing that is," Dominic Perrottet said on Wednesday.
"Our commitment to the people of our state has been, if we can get vaccinated and reach those targets, we can open up freely."
But Mr Perrottet added he had yet to speak with Regional NSW MPs about the issue of low vaccination rates in some areas.
"Having said that there has been concerns raised about regional NSW, if you look at those double vaccination rates," Mr Perrottet said.
Pressed again, he said he "hadn't" considered leaving some areas with low vaccination rates out of the free travel agreement.
"We will consider all the data that we have available to us from Health, and we'll make a considered decision and what is in the best interest," he said.
