A spate of popular dining, shopping and fitness venues across Sydney’s south-west have been put on alert after three new community transmission cases of COVID-19 were detected in NSW.
Anyone who attended a Pilates class at Fitness First gym in Carlingford on October 3 between 8.15am and 9.15am is being considered close contacts and have been called on to get tested and isolate for 14 days since their visit.
Gymgoers were told to isolate for the entire 14 day period even if they get a negative test result.
NSW Health is also assessing the risk of exposure at a number of other venues associated with the new cases.
Anyone who went to the following venues on specific dates has been asked to immediately isolate and get tested even if they develop any symptoms: Narellan Kmart on October 3 between 6-7pm, Penrith Homemaker Centre on October 4 between 11am and 1pm, Guzman y Gomez Penrith on October 4 between 1.30pm and 2pm, Home Co Penrith on October 4 between 2pm-2.30pm, Westfield Parramatta on October 5 between 9.30am and 11am and Castle Tower Shopping Centre on October 5 between noon and 1pm.
The mystery cases broke NSW’s 12-day streak without local infection
The cases are under “urgent investigation,” having broken a 12-day streak without a local infection.
The trio of cases will be reported in tomorrow’s tally because they were identified after the 8pm reporting period.
Three other people, all returned travellers in hotel quarantine, have also been diagnosed with the virus and are included in today’s total.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the three local cases, two women and a man, are not believed to be linked to each other and are spread across the Parramatta, Campbelltown and Wollondilly LGAs.
“This also aligns with traces of the virus that were found in both southwestern Sydney and northwestern Sydney through the swage system”
Recent samples of sewage in the areas uncovered traces of the virus.
Ms Berejiklian said she expected Queensland to reset its ‘28-day no community transmission’ rule which triggers a border reopening with NSW.
“I say to the QLD government, I appreciate you’ll probably come out today and say the 28 days is ticking again from the start.
“I will put to you, that until the end of the pandemic it’s highly unlikely, highly improbable that NSW will ever get to 28 days no community transmission, because that is not how a pandemic works.
VICTORIA RECORDS SIX CASES, TWO DEATHS
Victoria has recorded just six new cases of coronavirus in the past day but two more people have died from the disease.
It’s the second day since June 12 where the state has recorded a daily virus count less than seven.
Melbourne‘s 14-day average has now crucially entered single digits, standing at 9.9, strengthening calls to reopen the city by October 19.
Health authorities say that figure must be around five for the state government to consider easing restrictions.
BONDI LOCALS SLAMMED FOR EXERCISING IN COVID TENT
A group of local exercisers have been slammed for using a COVID testing clinic for their personal training session at Bondi Beach this morning without council permission.
Around four women were seen with their personal trainer under the drive through clinic, which allows people to be tested without leaving their cars, conducting their workout.

Their equipment, including bags, boxing gloves and water bottles can be seen placed on the tables, which would be used shortly later by the nurses at the pop up testing station.
Waverley Council said they had not allowed the group to use that area for personal training sessions while it was not in operation.
“The site is thoroughly cleaned at the end of each day and all testing equipment and PPE is removed and stored appropriately,” a spokesperson for the council said.
“However, the Council advises against personal trainers and any other community groups using the site for their own purposes.”
It comes as the state recorded no locally acquired COVID-19 cases for the 11th day in a row.
Health authorities said in the last 24 hours there were 11 cases among returned travellers in hotel quarantine.
There were 5,385 people tested in the reporting period which is a slight increase from yesterday‘s 4,789.
