Comanchero Mick Hawi charged, expects bail

THE Comanchero bikie boss Mick Hawi is in police custody and is expected to be charged shortly over the violent melee at Sydney airport.

COMANCHERO bikie boss Mick Hawi has been charged with affray over the violent melee at Sydney Airport, as investigations and arrests continue over ongoing bikie bloodshed around the city.

Hawi, of Bexley, has been charged at Sydney Police Centre and refused police bail to appear before Central Local Court this afternoon.

Ears cut: Bikies admit brutal attack

NSW Police Deputy Commissioner Paul Carey said today he was confident someone would eventually be charged with murder over the fight, although he did not say who.

Five other Comancheros have now been refused bail on affray charges stemming from the brawl, which rolled through the domestic terminal, leaving 29-year-old Anthony Zervas dead.

Rees fears bikie backlash

"Given the number of people who were in the airport we have spoken to, who have given us statements, I am confident at the end of the day that there will be someone charged with that very serious offence,'' Deputy Commissioner Carey said.

Barrister John Korn arrived at the Surry Hills complex just before 11am, saying he expected his client Hawi to get bail when he appears in court.

Under the terms of an agreement reached on Thursday last week, Hawi had arranged to meet police early today at a “secret location”, believed to be the NSW Crime Commission's covert city premises.

Mr Korn said despite police being “on a mission” to see him refused bail, he was confident the court would grant it.

The bikie boss, main picture, right, was arrested just after 8am and taken to the Sydney Police Centre.

“Bail should be granted, but it would be premature to say that bail will be granted,” Mr Korn said.

“He (Hawi) understands the seriousness of the allegations.”

"He understands that the police are very much on a mission to try and make sure he doesn't get bail, so yes, he's concerned.

"He would very much like his liberty back again (and) that's what we are here to try and achieve.''

Mr Korn said reports Hawi was in hiding were wrong, and denied claims, revealed by The Daily Telegraph, that a $100,000 bounty had been placed on his head.

“That was a story that was circulated last week that has left us absolutely flabbergasted,” he said.

Mr Korn refused to comment on a police search of Mr Hawi’s home last Thursday, saying only that his client had remained “close and available” to police.

Today's development came as police investigating outlaw motorcycle gangs seized a pistol and a set of handcuffs from an unnamed 21-year-old Oakhurst man, after pulling him over in Parramatta last night.

He was charged with possessing an unregistered firearm, possessing a prohibited weapon, drink driving and other traffic offences.

He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Parramatta Local Court on May 13.

Hawi’s solicitor, Lesly Randle, pictured right, inset, has told The Daily Telegraph she accompanied him to the secret rendezvous with police early this morning.

Special section: Inside the bikie bloodshed:

“In accordance with the undertaken given by Mr Hawi and his legal representatives, I accompanied (him) to meet with the police,” Ms Randle said.

“We will make an application for bail at 2pm today.”

Police have wanted to talk to Hawi over the brawl allegedly involving the Comanchero and Hells Angels at Sydney airport late last month that resulted in the bashing death of Anthony Zervas, 29, pictured right, inset.

Zervas was the brother of Guildford Hells Angel Peter Zervas, 32, who is in hospital after being shot outside his home.
