Candice Falzon breaks her silence on life after public humiliation with Sonny Bill Williams

Ironwoman Candice Falzon has spoken about how relentless scrutiny following her infamous encounter with Sonny Bill Williams pushed her to the edge.

AT her lowest, ironwoman Candice Falzon drove down Old South Head Rd towards The Gap, Sydney's notorious suicide spot.

She sat in her car for hours, ignoring frantic phone calls from her mother.

The public humiliation and relentless scrutiny following her infamous encounter with footballer Sonny Bill Williams at the Clovelly Hotel in 2007 pushed her to the edge.

"I did not want to be here.

I just hated life. I hated it," Falzon, 27, has revealed for the first time in an exclusive interview with The Sunday Telegraph.

"I was not far from The Gap, on Old South Head Road, heading down to Watsons Bay. I don't know what I would have done.

I didn't want to be here."

Eventually she answered a call from her older brother, Pat, and asked him to come and get her.

Since then, she slowly rebuilt her life, going, as Pat says, from the "s ... house to the penthouse".

Last month she finally did what she promised to do as a precocious 14-year-old: She won her sport's pinnacle, a Nutri-Grain ironwoman race.

Next week she is after the national championship.

rebuilt her life by moving to Perth in 2008 for two years, leaving the spotlight. "I have got that inner peace, everything around me is perfect now," Falzon said. "Looking back, I would never have thought I would be in the position I am now. I am so glad I didn't do a selfish act. I'd have missed out on all this."
