Salim Mehajer claims ‘no knowledge’ of demerit points issued under his name

CONTROVERSIAL Auburn deputy mayor Salim Mehajer is under the police microscope over a claim he shifted demerit points racked up in his name to a former international student who had no knowledge of the offences.

According to a report on Channel 7 news last night, cars belonging to either Mr Mehajer or his company, and registered to his home address, had been pinged in a series of speeding incidents.

But according to statutory declaration the man driving on each occasion was recent Condell Park accounting graduate Abdel Razzak, who is currently on a bridging visa.

However Mr Razzak, 24, denies having ever met Mr Mehajer - who was suspended from public office on Friday for failing to disclose ownership of a building being voted on in council - or driving any of his luxury vehicles.

“Only I know him like everyone after his wedding, he has a big wedding here, after his wedding everyone started knowing him,” Mr Razzak told Channel 7.

As a result of the penalty notices slapped on Mr Razzak, he racked up 11 demerit points and had his international driving privileges revoked — an action he is challenging in court.

Mr Razzak — who Mr Mehajer’s camp claimed was behind the wheel on each occasion after hiring the cars — reported his claims to Burwood detectives.

While Salim Mehajer’s lawyer Ramy Qutami said he had not been instructed to make a formal comment, he told The Daily Telegraph that the claims were based on “false information” and ones his client denied.

A NSW Police spokeswoman told The Daily Telegraph: “It has been reported to Burwood and police are investigating the claims that are made.”

In further sensational claims aired on Channel 7 last night, Mr Razzak said he was offered money by people close to Salim Mehajer to stay quiet.

Photographs show two Ferraris registered to Mr Mehajer allegedly speeding in the Cross City Tunnel and Hurstville as well as a BMW registered at the same address allegedly running a red light.
