Donald Trump has blasted Aussie billionaire Anthony Pratt, describing him as a “red haired weirdo from Australia” after a report claimed the former US President revealed classified information to the businessman.
In leaked recordings, Mr Pratt claimed he received a call from Mr Trump revealing he had just ordered airstrikes in Iraq.
Mr Pratt, the chairman of Visy Industries, was a strong supporter of Mr Trump and had developed a relationship with him, and even became a member of the former president’s exclusive Mar-a-Lago Club.
Mr Pratt claims the then-president said that he had also spoken with then-Iraqi President Barham Salih, who expressed concerns about the airstrikes, to which he responded, “OK, what are you going to do about it?”
The recording does not specify which military operation in Iraq was allegedly discussed, but it reportedly occurred around the time of US airstrikes in Iraq and Syria targeting Iranian-backed militia group Kata‘ib Hezbollah in December 2019.
“I haven’t even heard it, it hadn’t even been on the news yet and he said, ‘I just bombed Iraq today,’” Mr Pratt said, claiming Mr Trump had pushed the boundaries in his dealings as president.
“He knows exactly what to say and what not to say so that he avoids jail... but gets so close to it... that it looks like to everyone that he’s breaking the law.”
“He‘s outrageous. He just, ah, says whatever the f*** he wants. And he loves to shock people,” Mr Pratt is heard saying in another clip.
Mr Trump’s alleged disclosure of sensitive information raised concerns about the safety of military personnel who may have been on the ground, and gave further ammunition to his critics who believe he was unfit to hold America’s top job.
The Justice Department’s special counsel, Jack Smith, began investigating Mr Trump’s alleged habit of sharing classified information with Mr Pratt, leading to a 40-count indictment related to the mishandling of classified documents.
Trump fired back at the report on his own social media platform Truth Social, where he is running a relentless campaign to reclaim the US Presidency.
“The Failing New York Times story, leaked by Deranged Jack Smith and the Biden ‘Political Opponent Abuser’ DOJ about a red haired weirdo from Australia, named Anthony Pratt, is Fake News,” he wrote.
“I never spoke to him about Submarines but I did speak to him about creating jobs in Ohio and Pennsylvania, because that’s what I’m all about – JOBS, A GREAT ECONOMY, LOW TAXES, NO INFLATION, ENERGY, DOMINANCE, STRONG BORDERS, NO ENDLESS WARS, LOW INTEREST RATES, and much more!”
During interviews with federal prosecutors, Mr Pratt revealed that Mr Trump shared information about US nuclear submarines, including their capabilities and how close they could approach Russian submarines without detection.
Trump denies the reports and said they had been put out by “corrupt prosecutors” trying to interfere with his 2024 election campaign.
“The ridiculous story put out today about me talking to a Mar-a-Lago member about U.S. Submarines, is false and ridiculous, other than the fact that I will often state that we make the best Submarines and Military Equipment anywhere in the World – a pretty well known fact!” he wrote on the October 7 post.
“These fake stories are put out by corrupt prosecutors trying to interfere with the President Election of 2024, and based on the polling, where I am 60 points up on Republican Candidates, and 11 points up on Crooked Joe Biden, the people of our Country aren’t buying it.
“With that being said, I will always promote the Greatness of America – and it’s Military Equipment.
“The alternative would be for Allies, and others, to buy from Russia, China, or elsewhere.
“I like creating jobs in America, which was one of my most successful achievements as President!”
