In a stroke of luck that defies office norms, a man working in Darwin received life-changing news while sitting next to his boss.
Following in his father’s footsteps as a lottery enthusiast, he secured a $1 million win in the Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw, which was drawn on Monday evening.
With a division prize pool of $3 million, the Girraween man was one of three lucky winners.
The surprising revelation unfolded via a phone call from an unfamiliar number on Tuesday.
Initially thinking it a potential scam, he picked up the call on speakerphone, only to be pleasantly surprised when lottery officials greeted him, swiftly realising the authenticity of the call.
“That’s unreal. I’m stoked!” he commented.
“Dad got me into lotteries and Instant Scratch-Its tickets – I’ve got him to thank!
“I’m at work, and when you called, I was sitting next to my boss. I thought maybe it was a scam call, so I had it on speaker. I quickly turned it off speaker and now here we are!”
The winner, who now boasts a seven-figure bank account, said that he marked his winning numbers a long time ago and has played the same ticket over and over.
“These are my lucky numbers now,” he said, adding: “It might be hard to concentrate today.”
Despite typical fantasies of luxury and exorbitant spending post-Lotto win, the Darwin man divulged he plans to buy a property and a well-deserved “celebratory drink”.
This winner’s story adds to the 87 individuals who previously became millionaires through Monday & Wednesday Lotto across the country this year so far.
Throughout this period, a total of 93 division one winning entries emerged in Monday & Wednesday Lotto across Australia, collectively securing $93 million in winnings.
