A lotto winner almost didn’t claim a $100,000 award because he thought he had been scammed by officials who called to congratulate him on the win.
A man from Revesby, in Sydney’s south-west, won first prize in the Lucky Lotteries Jackpot draw.
But the man almost didn’t pick up the phone which announced the news, thinking he had been the victim of a scam.
“Oh my God! I thought this was a prank call,” the man said.
“I can’t tell you how glad I am that I answered.”
“I’m speechless! It’s incredible. I’ve been playing Lucky Lotteries for 10 years, but you never actually expect to win.”
He said the win had come at the right time, as he had recently bought a new home.
The man said he planned to use the money to ease the pressure on the monthly bills.
“I’ve always viewed it as a bit of fun,” he said.
“Wow! This is an absolutely life-changing event.”
