‘Snowflakes’: Sydney MAGA cafe closes after six weeks

A controversial cafe owner has shut down his eatery just six weeks after opening, blaming “snowflakes” for the failure of his latest venue in an extraordinary rant.

A cafe owner has closed his business just six weeks after opening in Sydney’s inner west, blaming “snowflakes” for the failure of his latest venture.

Mark Da Costa opened Bueno Eatery in St Peters in March after closing down his Waterloo cafe Hale and Hearty in 2020 after being involved in a series of internet controversies, in which he called a community member a homophobic slur.

He also declared his cafe a “Donald Trump safe zone”, which served pancakes with a “side of racism”.

At the time, Mr Da Costa blamed the “left-wing fake vegan community” for the closure, telling those who criticised his attitude to “go f**k yourself”.

In March, Mr Da Costa spoke to news.com.au about how he had grown up and had hoped to “move on” from his Trump-laden controversies with his latest venue, situated at the end of Newtown’s renowned King Street.

However, in an announcement about the closure of Bueno Eatery, Mr Da Costa was back in his Trump shirt, posting a photo of himself in a MAGA shirt and giving the finger to the camera.

The Eatery had only opened on March 19.

“We closed,” he wrote.

“St Peters was the wrong area to open a business like ours. However, it has been a huge lesson in both business and social studies.”

Mr Costa then took aim at the LGBTI community. News.com.au has chosen not to repeat the comments.

Mr De Costa, who is a previous contestant from Australian Idol, said he would be also “releasing a song” about the closure of Bueno.

In a statement to news.com.au, Mr De Costa said Newtown was “infested with rats and hairy men.”

“What a sh*t hole. Releasing a song about it in June … so that you can be offended by it. F**kin snowflakes. The lot of them,” he wrote, before calling this author “a b*tch”.

Mr Da Costa has since deleted all of Bueno Eatery’s social media accounts.
