A South Australian man had no idea he’d won this week’s mega $50 million Oz Lotto jackpot until checking his ticket on a whim, letting out a colourful reaction.

A South Australian man discovered by chance he had the winning ticket for a mammoth $50 million Oz Lotto jackpot, leaving him “shell-shocked” and declaring his workdays are done.

The sole division one-winning entry was purchased at Terry White Chemmart Pharmacy in the small town of Barra, about two hours north of Adelaide.

Following Tuesday night’s draw, the man checked his ticket yesterday and learnt the life-changing outcome.

“I didn’t even know the jackpot had been won and there was a winner,” he said. “It’s unbelievable. It’s f***ed. I can’t believe it.”

His ticket was unregistered, meaning The Lott officials couldn’t contact him after the draw and instead had to wait for him to come forward.

It marks the state’s second-biggest lotto haul this year, after an Adelaide man bagged a staggering $150 million Powerball jackpot in May.

The latest winner was too stunned to have any immediate firm plans for the tax-free cash, but said “this does absolutely everything for me”.

“I’ll treat myself and help my family. I don’t think I’ll work again. I think my workdays are done.”

Burra Terry White Chemmart Pharmacy retail manager Kelly Bray was just as shocked, saying she was “stoked” for the man.

“I can’t stop shaking and I didn’t even win it,” Ms Bray said.

“It’s incredible. It’s such big news for our pharmacy and for Burra. I’m so stoked for our winner and wish him all the very best with his prize.”

The Lott revealed Tuesday’s draw had splashed out more than $67 million across more than 719,000 prizes across division two to seven.

That included 10 division two winners who each scored almost $63,000.

“The Lott reminds players of the importance of registering their tickets to The Lott Members Club, so all of their prizes are secure and they can be contacted directly with the good news of a big win,” the company said in a statement.

In the 12 months to June, Oz Lotto has paid out 16 division one-winning tickets a total of $323 million.

Included in that was a $90 million jackpot, the second-largest prize in the lottery’s three decade history, which was split among three winners from New South Wales.

Of the 16 major prize winners in the past financial year, 10 were in NSW, three in Queensland, and one each in South Australia, Tasmania, and Western Australia.

But those winners are extremely lucky.

To win division one, a player needs to correctly pick all seven winning numbers in a single game panel – the chances of which are one in 62 million.

For bigger lotteries like Powerball, the odds are even slimmer – an estimated one in 134 million.
