That's all from the Trading Day blog for Tuesday, June 17. The ASX 200 index closed down 0.1 per cent at 8541.3 point with investors sidelined amid rising Middle East tensions. 

In the US, the S&P 500 index closed nearly 1 per cent higher and the Dow Jones gained 0.8 per cent. The technology-focused Nasdaq index rose 1.5 per cent. But futures turned lower on news of Trump's hasty exit from G7 and the deployment of US forces to the Middle East.

Cryptocurrency giant bitcoin is above $US107,600.

The Aussie dollar is trading near US65.31c.
