Victoria Police continue ‘painstaking’ search for missing campers in High Country

Police are zeroing in on a region of dense bushland in Victoria’s remote High Country in the search for missing campers Russell Hill and Carol Clay.

Police have entered their second day searching for the bodies of Victoria’s missing campers within dense bushland in the state’s east.

The painstaking search is centred near the remote town of Dargo, 320km northeast of Melbourne, where specialist cops are combing the bush for Russell Hill and Carol Clay.

Russell Hill has been missing since March 2020.

It comes days after 55-year-old Greg Lynn was charged with the elderly friends’ murders after they vanished from the nearby High Country in March 2020.

Search and rescue crews along with missing persons detectives have now joined Victoria Police with the arduous task, according to Inspector Matthew Gleeson.

“We have a considerable number of police specialist resources attending … it is going to be a painstaking search that could take some considerable time,” he told ABC Gippsland.

The focused mission comes after wet weather hindered the search for the bodies over the weekend.

Assistant Commissioner Bob Hill previously explained how authorities were zeroing in on the region within the remote Victorian Alps in a bid to find the pair’s remains.

“We have located a specific area and we will establish a search parameter. We are hopeful we will find the remains,” he said.

“Our efforts to find the remains of Russell and Carol will continue. We are committed to finding the deceased persons.”
