Two teenage girls have been left terrified after they were allegedly followed down a laneway by an unknown man in Sydney’s inner west earlier this week.
The two girls were walking down the laneway between Taylor St and Burton St in Glebe about noon on Tuesday when they spotted a man standing next to a van.
The man allegedly tried to talk to the girls and followed them down the street when they ignored him.
Police will allege he then made an offensive gesture towards the girls before jumping in his vehicle and fleeing the scene.
The girls reported the incident to police, triggering an investigation by Leichhardt detectives.
A 28-year-old man was arrested on the Great Western Highway, Pendle Hill, just before 8pm on Wednesday.
He was taken to Parramatta police station and charged with carrying out a sexual act towards another without consent, two counts of stalking/intimidating with the intention of causing the other person to fear physical harm (personal), and driving a motor vehicle with a suspended licence.
He was granted conditional bail and will appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on September 25.
