Qld adds Maccas, Coles to Covid-19 exposure sites after six new cases of Delta, lockdown begins

Queensland Health have listed dozens of exposure sites, after six new cases of Covid-19 were detected in the community on Saturday.

Brisbane plunged into another snap lockdown

Customers at two busy supermarkets will be forced into two weeks of isolation as a swath of new venues across five suburbs are added to Queensland’s Covid-19 exposure site list.

The state recorded six new cases on Saturday, family members of a high school student who tested positive on Friday, a medical student who tutors the girl and a staff member at Ironside State School, where one of the siblings attends.

They are all confirmed to have the Delta strain.

The source of the latest outbreak remains unclear, however chief health officer Jeannette Young said one of two recently returned travellers had likely given it to an unidentified mystery link who had then passed it on into the community, and to the medical student.

Given the unknown origins of the cluster, Queensland was plunged into a snap three-day lockdown from 4pm on Saturday, with residents ordered to wear masks at all times outside the home, even when exercising, and to not travel more than 10km from their place of residence.

Deputy Premier Steven Miles said the measures would amount to “the strictest lockdown” in the state’s response to the pandemic so far.
