Oatlands tragedy: Mother of three kids killed by driver says she forgives him

Police have found the getaway car used in the heartless robbery targeting a Sydney family who lost three of their children in a horrific crash.

Danny and Leila Abdallah’s Telopea home was broken into by an unknown man who took multiple items of sentimental value on Wednesday.

Police said the man fled the Robert Street home in a stolen white Audi which was being driven by another man.

On Friday night police confirmed that they had made a major breakthrough, finding the car.

It was discovered abandoned on Popondetta Road at Blackett and has been taken away for forensic examination.

The driver and the thief remain at large.

The Abdallah’s children Antony, Angelina and Sienna, as well as their cousin Veronique Sakr, were killed in February last year, when they were ploughed down by a drunk and drug-affected driver as they went to buy ice cream at Oatlands.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Mrs Abdallah said she realised the man had gone upstairs to her bedroom and opened her bedside table where she has photos of her kids.

“He took a lot of personal items (but) it’s not about the items, these items are sentimental to us.

“With every item we have memories of our kids.”

She explained the man also took a watch which reminded her of her daughter Angelina because she was with her when she purchased it. The thief also stole their son Antony’s phone.

“They invaded our privacy,” Mrs Abdallah said.

Cumberland Police Area Commander Detective Superintendent Darryl Jobson described the home invasion as “abhorrent,” particularly given what all the victims have been through over the past year.

“In the last 12 months the victims of the Telopea incident have endured an incredible ordeal and I appeal to the conscience of the people responsible for the crime to hand themselves into the police,” he said.

The man is described as caucasian, about 183cm tall, aged between 20 and 25 with a skinny build and blond/light coloured hair.

He was wearing a black baseball cap, a black face mask, black track pants and a blue hooded jumper.

The driver of the vehicle is described only as having blond hair.
