The father of the Deputy Prime Minister’s partner will take on Bob Katter in the upcoming election, backed by Clive Palmer.

The father of Barnaby Joyce’s partner will take on Bob Katter in the upcoming federal election on a United Australia Party ticket.
Peter Campion, whose daughter Vikki is in a relationship with the Deputy Prime Minister, will contest the seat of Kennedy in North Queensland.
Mr Katter has held the seat since 1993 – first as a member of the Nationals Party, then as an Independent before he formed his own party in 2011.
Clive Palmer made the announcement in Townsville on Thursday, saying he was looking forward to working with Mr Campion.
“Peter is a great Australian having served his community as a fireman and campaigning strongly to make North Queensland a better place,” Mr Palmer said.
“He will make an outstanding member of parliament for the United Australia Party.”
Mr Campion said he appreciated Mr Katter’s service but at “his age … he is entitled to spend more time with his family”.
He will run his campaign on an anti-net zero platform.
“At the last election, Labor promised us a trillion dollars of debt and net zero by 2050. Now the LNP and their Labor alliance have delivered 1.3 trillion dollars of debt and net zero by 2050,” he said.
“Net zero means no jobs and no future for our community and we have got to stop the Labor/Liberal alliance.”
Ms Campion was media adviser to Mr Joyce when they began an affair while Mr Joyce was still married.
The affair triggered the infamous “bonk ban” when former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull announced a change to the code of conduct whereby ministers could no longer have sexual relationships with staffers.
