CCTV released after man's body found in fire exit

Police are searching for a man captured on CCTV footage as they investigate the suspicious death of a Sydney tradie whose body was discovered in the fire exit of an apartment block.

Paul Browne, 33, is believed to have been visiting a female escort the night before his body was found in the fire escape of a large apartment complex on Dalmeny Ave in Rosebery on October 8.

Detectives believe Mr Browne was a victim of foul play and it is understood they are exploring the possibility he owed money to the escort.

On Wednesday, almost a month after his body was found, police released security footage of a man they want to speak to.

Police believe he can assist with their investigation.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Detective Inspector Phil Hallinan said officers were treating Mr Browne’s death as suspicious.

“(The) main concerning thing from the scene was that he was found in the fire exit,” he said.

“One line of inquiry we are looking at is we don’t believe that he got there of his own accord.”

He described it as a “devastating time” for Mr Browne’s family.

“We want to provide some assurance to the family and work out what’s happened,” Inspector Hallinan said.

The cause of Mr Browne’s death is not yet known.

The man police would like to speak to is described as caucasian, between 170cm and 180cm tall, and of large build.

At the time, he was wearing a black cap, black and white jacket, black track pants and white runners.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact South Sydney Police Area Command on (02) 8338 7399 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
