More than 100 residents escape injury after nursing home blaze

More than 100 nursing home residents have escaped injury following a blaze at a nursing home on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula on Sunday.

More than 100 aged care residents escaped without injury after a fire broke out at a nursing home on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula on Sunday.

Country Fire Authority firefighters were called to the nursing home at Graf Rd, Somerville shortly after 8am.

The cause of the blaze is being investigated however it’s believed it started in the kitchen and spread into the roof space.

All 150 residents had to be evacuated from the building but paramedics reported no injuries.

The residents were moved back into the building after the fire was brought under control about 9am.

“Firefighters are conducting overhaul of the building which has received smoke and water damage from the internal sprinklers,” the CFA said.
