A pregnant mum expecting her third child has been identified as the woman allegedly killed inside a suburban Melbourne home.

A pregnant mum has been identified as the woman found dead inside a suburban Melbourne home on Saturday night.

Michelle Darragh, 32, a mum of two young boys, died at her former Bayswater North home about 7.30pm.

A police spokeswoman said both Ms Darragh and her 29-year-old partner were found inside the Huntingdon Ave property with life threatening injuries but she tragically could not be saved.

The man was taken to hospital in a critical condition where he remains under police guard.

Ms Darragh, a dedicated social worker, was expecting her third child when her life was tragically cut short.

It’s been reported Ms Darragh and her partner had recently separated after five years together and she had returned to the house on Saturday afternoon to collect some belongings.

Ms Darragh’s brother told 9 News in a statement that his sister was a “beautiful soul who put everyone’s needs before herself”.

“Our family has lost a beautiful daughter and sister. We are beside ourselves with emotion,” he said.

“She absolutely adored her boys and gave her life to them.”

Another family member said she was a “great person”, one of the nicest they’d ever known.

“Our family will never be the same after this loss,” he said.

Other mourners described Ms Darragh as a “beautiful human”.

Neighbour Trent Falahey told reporters the pair was “a standard young couple with two kids living in suburbia”.

“They were fantastic, they were a nice couple, two young boys,” he said.

“At 7pm at night, the sirens came and that’s when we realised something really bad has happened.”

Australian Association of Social Workers national president Vittorio Cintio also paid tribute to Ms Darragh, who he described as a “dedicated social worker”.

“Our condolences go out to the family of Michelle during this deeply traumatic time,” he said.

A police spokeswoman said the man remained in hospital under police guard and was yet to be interviewed by homicide squad detectives.
