A 25-year-old man has been arrested and a pistol has been seized as police search for the killers of Mejid Hamzy, the brother of gang leader Bassam Hamzy.

Officers from Strike Force Raptor raided a home on Market Street at Condell Park just before 7am on Tuesday, where they found a Glock pistol under a lounge cushion and an unidentified white powder.

A 25-year-old man was arrested at the home and taken to Bankstown Police Station, where charges are expected to be laid.

NCA NewsWire understands the arrest is connected to the investigation into the murder of Mr Hamzy, but the man is not believed to be linked to the shooting itself.

Mr Hamzy is believed to be linked to the feared Brothers 4 Life gang, which has several chapters throughout south west Sydney and was founded from behind bars by the 44-year-old father’s brother, Bassam Hamzy.

He was gunned down near his car about 7.30am on October 19 by two men wearing balaclavas, who police believe may have been professional killers.

Police said at the time they believed there was a “very real” threat of retribution, and less than a week later, the man’s cousin, Mohammed ‘Little Crazy’ Hamzy was stabbed at John Morony Correctional Centre at Windsor.

His wounds were not fatal and he was taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.

Earlier on Tuesday, police slapped 22 people who allegedly have links to gangs and rival crime families with public safety orders that ban them from visiting certain public places.

The orders were served all across Sydney, including at Merrylands, Greystanes, Mt Druitt, Minchinbury, San Souci, Auburn and Bronte.

As the orders were issued, firearms prohibition orders and weapons prohibitions orders were carried out, which led to the arrest of the 25-year-old man in Condell Park.

Investigations are continuing.
