Man allegedly kidnapped, dragged into van while walking in western Sydney

Shocked locals have captured the fiery aftermath of a man’s alleged terrifying kidnapping from a street in Sydney.

A 46-year-old man is recovering in hospital after he was allegedly attacked with a wrench and kidnapped while he was walking home in Sydney’s western suburbs.

Two men believed to be behind the terrifying attack remain on the run and police say the reason behind the kidnapping remains a mystery.

Shocked Greystanes locals captured video footage of the man’s car on fire, which was towed away for examination on Sunday as detectives searched for clues to help solve the mystery at the various crime scenes.

About 8.40pm Saturday, police allege the two wanted men pulled up in a van next to the victim who was kicked, assaulted with a wrench and dragged in to the van on Church Ave in Westmead.

The man’s car keys, wallet and phone were later stolen and he was dumped on the side of Bruce Street in Merrylands.

A silver Honda CRV which belonged to the man was found on fire about 11:10pm at the Bathurst Street Park in Greystanes.

Police say the reason behind the attack remains a mystery and it’s believed the man had no links to any known criminal organisation.

“Police are treating this incident as isolated,” Detective Darren McArdle said.

“The man’s in a stable condition, he’s still in hospital but he’s currently assisting police with their inquiries.”
