Gladys Berejiklian was nowhere to be seen at the daily press conference as NSW recorded its worst day in the current Covid outbreak yet.
The Premier’s unusual absence sparked scepticism on social media, with some people asking why she had missed today in particular.
Ms Berejiklian’s office told NCA NewsWire she was working on Saturday, with no reason in particular she didn’t front the cameras.
Instead Health Minister Brad Hazzard delivered the dismal news of 163 new locally acquired cases.
It wasn’t the only record broken, with more than 93,000 tests conducted across the state in the 24 hours to 8pm.
Mr Hazzard hit out at state leaders across the country for declining to send their Pfizer stocks to Sydney as the outbreak grows.
“Last time I looked, we were a Commonwealth,” he said.
“It disturbs me that it would (seem) that all we’ve ever done to work together has just seemingly been cast aside.”
Mr Hazzard said NSW needed Pfizer vaccines that other states perhaps “don’t have such a great need for at the present time” for young people in southwest and western Sydney.
