The gunmen who remain on the run after firing bullets at a former bikie will face the “full force of the law,” Daniel Andrews has vowed.
Professional boxer Sam Abdulrahim, 30, was in a serious but stable condition on Sunday afternoon after being targeted while leaving a funeral in Melbourne’s north.
It is believed occupants of a Mazda SUV fired shots into Mr Abdulrahim’s Mercedes-Benz shortly before midday.
The offending car fled, ploughing into a fire hydrant and pole on Box Forest Road, near Sydney Road in Fawkner.
The occupants ran from the damaged vehicle and carjacked a nearby Ford Territory wagon before driving off.
The Ford Territory was located in Epping about 10pm.
Police said the carjacking victims, a female driver and child, were not physically injured during the incident.
Investigators believe the shooting was a targeted attack.
Speaking to reporters in Frankston, the Premier put the perpetrators on blast: “It’s just not on”.
“I’ll send my best wishes to those members of the public caught up in this,” Mr Andrews said.
“This is obviously a very live matter that Victoria Police take seriously.
“I’m very confident that the people involved in this completely unacceptable behaviour will feel the full force of the law.”

On Saturday, Acting Superintendent Boris Buick said Mr Abdulrahim managed to drive himself to Fawkner police station following the shooting.
He was then taken to hospital in a critical condition.
Photos show Mr Abdulrahim’s black bullet-ridden Mercedes-Benz sitting outside Fawkner police station.
Mr Abdulrahim, a professional kickboxer who owns boxing management company Punisher Promotions, was previously jailed for two years after he lost control of his sports car and crashed, killing 88-year-old Muriel Hulett.
In 2019, the Preston man had a brief fling with former Married At First Sight contestant Jessika Power.
Anyone with information about the shooting or carjacking is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
