A teenager is dead after a horrific car crash in a semirural street of Sydney’s northern beaches overnight.
The boy, 16, was a passenger in the car when it left the road on Caladenia Close, Elanora Heights, and careered into a fence about 11.20pm on Saturday.
NSW Police said in a statement the boy suffered critical head injuries and died at the scene despite the efforts of first responders.
Six people – five male, one female – were in the car at the time and are believed to be aged in their teens.
The driver was a 17-year-old boy.
The P-plater was behind the wheel of a Holden Commodore station wagon, which did not have enough seats or seat belts to accommodate six passengers, a NSW Police spokeswoman said.
The other passengers were taken to Royal North Shore Hospital for precautionary checks, and the driver underwent mandatory testing.
Images from the scene show the crumpled vehicle next to a steel and brick fence.
Inquiries are continuing and anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
