NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet has taken a dig at predecessor Gladys Berejiklian ahead of Wednesday’s State of Origin game one.
Mr Perrottet recreated an infamous photo of the former premier standing awkwardly in front of a tiny screen wearing NSW Blues attire and holding a can of Coke Zero.
“Getting ready for Game 1. Go the NSW Blues!” Ms Berejiklian tweeted roughly one year ago.
Standing in the same office, Mr Perrottet recreated the stance and caption of the tweet that garnered Ms Berejiklian endless ridicule.
Mr Perrottet had plenty to be invested about in Wednesday’s game with a bet against Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk hanging over his head.
According to the Queensland Premier if her team win the three match series Mr Perrottet has agreed to light the Harbour Bridge maroon.
If NSW claim the series Brisbane’s Storey Bridge will be lit blue.
“Origin is more than a game,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“For 42 years it’s been mate against mate and state against state.”
Mr Perrottet told reporters he had accepted the bet but couldn’t help getting a little personal.
“So their bridge is apparently called the Story Bridge. I hadn‘t heard of it. I had to Google it to make sure it was in Queensland,” he said.
“The Harbour Bridge everyone knows – and the Story Bridge versus the Harbour Bridge, it’s a little unfair.”
He added that his state was yet to be paid $30 million from Queenslanders who spent time in NSW hotel quarantine during the pandemic.
“And so we’ll resend that bill once we win tonight,” he said.
