Police are still hunting for several people in relation to the shooting death of Sydney teenager Omar Elomar earlier this year.
His distraught family say they are suffering “never-ending days of grief” knowing the 18-year-old will never come home.
It is understood an 18-year-old man was arrested in February and charged with murder over the fatal shooting at Miller in Sydney’s west, but police believe another five people may have been involved in the “unprovoked attack”.
The teen was left to die on the side of the road out the front of a home after being shot while sitting in a car.
At the time, Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty, who has only recently been appointed the new homicide boss for NSW Police, described the shooting as “cold-blooded murder”.
Authorities have launched a fresh appeal for information.
Just after 11pm on February 15, emergency crews were called to Cabramatta Ave, Miller, after reports a teenager had been shot.
Paramedics worked to save Mr Elomar but he died at the scene.
On Thursday, detectives released new clues in the hope of solving the crime – CCTV footage of two vehicles seen in the area at the time of the shooting.
A silver sedan was spotted driving along Cabramatta Ave around the time of the shooting, while a red hatchback drove away from the scene shortly after.
Mr Elomar, who had no criminal history, is related to dead Islamic State fighter Mohamed Elomar.
The teenager’s distraught sister Shayma Elomar took to social media after learning of her brother’s death.
“Somebody thought it was okay to take away one of the two and only brothers that I have! Omar I have no f***ing words. I have no more ambition for life,” she wrote on social media.
On Thursday Mr Elomar’s mother, Souad Elomar, urged anyone with information to come forward, describing her son as “beautiful, loving and caring”.
“Omar was … type of person who would put others’ needs before himself, sacrificing his social time, his weekends to care for his brother with special needs,” Ms Elomar said.
“Our family have never-ending days of grief knowing that he will never come home, so if you know anything do the right thing, come forward and help us find some peace.”
Supt Doherty said information from the community would be crucial in solving this case.
“While investigators have previously made one arrest, we believe there were more people present at the time Omar was shot – and others that have knowledge of those involved,” he said on Thursday.
“It is our belief that the occupants of the vehicles depicted in the CCTV would have seen something that might assist our investigation.”
He said authorities had received information to suggest a group of four to five males of Pacific Islander/Maori appearance were seen in the area and acting suspiciously.
“Anyone who has knowledge of this group or who can help detectives identify the vehicles – and the occupants – is urged to contact police,” Supt Doherty said.
Investigations under Strike Force Cero continue.
