Alleged shooter of nine-year-old girl to remain behind bars on remand for eight weeks

A man accused of shooting a nine-year-old Sydney girl with an intent to kill her will remain behind bars on remand.

The man arrested over the shooting of a nine-year-old Sydney girl will remain behind bars on remand for at least eight more weeks.

Mahmoud Rizk did not appear t a committal hearing on Thursday in Downing Centre Court, where the prosecution asked for an eight-week adjournment.

The court was told Mr Rizk did not apply for bail.

The alleged shooting happened in the suburb of Connells Point, near Hurstville in Sydney’s south, last Friday at about 5.45pm.

According to court documents, Mr Rizk is accused of shooting at the nine-year-old “with intent to murder”.

The 34-year-old Pendle Hill man’s case will be heard in court again on September 8.

A lawyer for Mr Rizk declined to comment.
