Will Greta Win It?

We’ll know within the hour if Greta Thunberg, the pintsize pride of Stockholm, is awarded the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize.

Man, I hope she does. The Peace Prize hasn’t been presented to any deserving candidate since Barack Obama won it in 2009 for being black.

UPDATE. Outrage! Greta has lost, denying me a fantastic Sportsbet payoff for backing a 2019 Septuple Crown: the Goldene Kamera, the Fritt Ord Award, the Rachel Carson Prize, the Ambassador of Conscience Award, the Fellow of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society (including Geddes Environment Medal), and the Right Livelihood Award alongside Greta’s deserved Nobel.

Just like me, her fans are furious:

Greta Thunberg’s fans have labelled her Nobel Peace Prize snub “bad news for the planet”, but say the 16-year-old Swedish climate activist still has a big future ahead of her.

“Don’t be disappointed that Greta didn’t win the Nobel Peace Prize. This movement isn’t about one person, it’s about all of us standing together in our millions and fighting back,” Youth Strike 4 Climate, the UK campaign for Greta’s Fridays For Future movement, wrote on Twitter.

Greta had been a favourite to win the prestigious prize, with reports suggesting she’d be up against New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and the young leaders of the Hong Kong protest movement.

But the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed Ali, was awarded the prize for making peace with the country’s bitter foe, Eritrea.

Big deal. He's not even autistic.
