Indigenous Affairs Minister Nigel Scullion is the latest senior Liberal to announce his departure from politics ahead of this year’s election.

To hell with him. This was Scullion’s contribution to the vicious Bill Leak beat-up of 2016:

Indigenous affairs minister Nigel Scullion has criticised as ‘particularly tasteless’ Bill Leak’s cartoon in the Australian newspaper on Thursday which portrayed a drunk Aboriginal father who had forgotten his own son’s name.

“Although Australian cartoonists have a rich tradition of irreverent satire, there is absolutely no place for depicting racist stereotypes,” Scullion said in a statement …

“I am heartened that various voices from across the political and social spectrum have come out and strongly condemned the cartoon. I would urge the Australian to be more aware of the impact cartoons like the one published today can have on Indigenous communities,” Scullion said.

I wish him a brief retirement. Scullion joins fellow ministers Michael Keenan and Kelly O’Dwyer in departure.
